Modesto Bible College learning format.

Modesto Bible Collge uses a unique learning style. While there will be plenty of instruction by the teachers, class time is not lecture driven. The main instructional format is guided instruction. Students will be given directives about an assignment then complete it during class time.  The guided learning approach is supported by three principles.

  • Presenters learn better than receptors. Students who present their findings retain more information than those who simply write down what they hear. Therefore MBC students will develop and present the results of various assignments in three different formats: summary and position briefs and Bible outlines. All briefs are one page in length.

  • Discussion promotes learning more than lecture. Students grasp more when they actively converse with one another than by being lectured. Therefore learning will include weekly debriefings that require group discussions and collaborative efforts.

  • Preferred reading results in greater retention than assigned readings. Therefore students are given latitude within a given subject to choose books from a reading list, that interest them most. See Reading List.
